The exam primarily evaluates the test takers ability to communicate in four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Up to once a week, you can take IELTS with IDP (four times a month). For global test dates, the IDP schedule is 48 days per year. If a candidate is not satisfied with his or her results, he or she can retake the exam three months after the first one.

Although dierent institutes may have varied eligibility requirements, the IELTS does not have any specific selection criterion. Candidates aged 16 and up are encouraged to take IELTS.
